The Empire strikes back

Enough of Reddit already, says OpenSea. Look what I can do!

The leading NFT marketplace is going through tough times, as newcomer Reddit onboarded more NFT buyers in a week than OpenSea did in 5 years.

Superhit blockchain fantasy game Spliterlands has chosen to partner with OpenSea to launch an exclusive mint for its latest "Runi" series. After running only on Hive, the collectible card game is now open to other blockchain communities. Runis are currently minting on Opensea and on the Ethereum blockchain for allowlist holders. Public minting will take place on November 3rd.

Runi stands for "Runicore," a limited-edition promo card added to the Splinterlands game. They're generative NFTs that can be used in-game as playable cards and obviously as pfps. A total of 6,500 NFT cards will be minted out of the 2 billion possible combinations. To play your unique card, connect your Ethereum wallet to Splinterlands. And just like that, Splinterlands was made Ethereum-compatible and uses generative NFT cards thanks to OpenSea. That's right, Reddit. What do you have to say now?

Apple Jedi move

Keep fighting, young padawans; I won't give you easy access to my throne, says Tim Cook. Only time will tell if the iPhone has reached a plateau in units shipped and if Q4 2022 marks the beginning of a downhill trend for the 15-year-old product.

However, one thing seems pretty clear: Apple has distanced itself from the NFT community. Updating their App Store terms, Apple confirmed a series of do's and don'ts for NFT-related services:

  • Do pay our 30% cut on in app-purchases.

  • Don't use your own mechanisms to unlock content or functionality.

  • Don't include buttons, external links, or other calls to action that direct customers to purchasing mechanisms other than in-app purchases.

The pill is hard to swallow for the community as it means no token-gated utility and no NFT-enabled mobile gaming. Tim Sweeney already took Apple to court in an epic battle and seems ready for another.

Today's newsletter is brought to you by "Blood Vessels" NFT

Do you need ideas for your Halloween costume? How about dressing up as a vampire? Too classic? Be a web3 vampire!

Kongregate's debut NFT collection, "Blood Vessels," wants you to become a vampire and explore your unearthly and dark origins.Blood Vessels is a community-driven, blockchain-fueled narrative experience in the form of a tabletop roleplay game. A vampire NFT lifestyle only on Discord, if you will.

Each of the 250 avatars is a one-of-one piece with varying traits, art, and game attributes. They unlock unique roles and access to secret Discord channels to enhance the gameplay experience.

The team has planned future utilities as the game (and players) evolve more profoundly into the experience. Collectors also get a price lock on future Blood Vessel mints, alongside the ability to choose their narrative scenarios, further adding to the utility.

Mint day is tomorrow, October 26th. Halloween is still on the 31st.
