BAYC Jimmy The Monkey Trial is absolutely "some really weird shit"

Yesterday, we announced that BAYC were about to release a short film to kick start the new Trial of Jimmy the Monkey narrative. Well, the moment has come, and the six-stage expansion has begun with a weird, mysterious short film.

BAYC Co-founder Garga warned us that the Trial was "some really weird shit." After witnessing what was released, we 100% agree. Things take a turn for the absurdly weird in the BAYC universe.

What could be so weird, I hear you ask? Well, the video starts off with BAYC monkey Jimmy taking a HUGE dump in a BAYC outhouse in the middle of a party. BAYC mascot Curtis finds Jimmy in this state as he enters the outhouse, and disgusted by what he smells, he turns around to leave.

Honestly, I can't believe I'm even writing this. TLDR; JPEG monkey takes a stinky dump.

Anyway, back to the story. Curtis is about to leave, but before he does, a flurry of arrows and knives fly around him, and a BAYC knight appears FROM THE TOILET. The Knight then presents Curtis with a mysterious box. (You may recognise this box as being tweeted earlier this month on the official BAYC account).

So, the Knight hands Curtis a special key from within the box. Then he leaves with a sense of urgency BACK INTO THE DISGUSTING TOILET. On his outhouse exit, Curtis then joins the party along with his other primate friends. They ignore the box and key, and continue to consume ungodly amounts of alcohol!

Look IDK about you, but if a knight had just emerged, from a toilet, and given me a weird box with a key, I'd probably be a bit more concerned.

The Apes keep partying, until Jimmy manages to swallow the key in his drunken state (again, this key came from a box in the toilet). The Apes then chase him around trying to get a hold of him to retrieve the key. Jimmy then steps back into the outhouse, locking the door securely.

He then proceeds to try to throw up the key, and when that doesn't work, tries to "evacuate" the key via his other orifice. But alas, this plan doesn't work out the way it has to, and Jimmy passes out on the toilet seat. Curtis and the other Apes then conjure up a last-minute plan - dig in to the sewers and retrieve the key from under Jimmy's butt!

And that's exactly where the video ends.

Yuga Labs Scores A Win In Court Against Ryder Ripps

From one monkey trial to another, Bored Apes creator Yuga Labs has scored a win in the widely talked about lawsuit it filed against artist Ryder Ripps.

On December 16, the United District Court for the Central District of California dismissed Ripps’s efforts to dismiss the lawsuit. This means that the case may head to trial.

Need a reminder of why BAYC and RR are feuding? Well, many reasons, but in this specific case Yuga Labs filed a lawsuit in June against Ryder Ripps Bored Apes (RR/BAYC), a derivative NFT project by Ripps.

Apparently, RR/BAYC NFTs linked to the same artwork files as BAYC NFTs. This, Yuga Labs claimed, was a deliberate attempt to mislead potential BAYC investors. So, the company filed the suit on the grounds of false advertising, trademark infringement, unjust enrichment, and misleading consumers.

But in a turn of events, Ryder Ripp's lawyers filed an anti-SLAPP motion against Yuga Labs in August. This allows defendants to stop lawsuits against “protected speech made in connection with a public issue.” In the motion, Ripps’ lawyers claimed that the lawsuit was Yuga Labs’ attempt at silencing the artist for his racism allegations against BAYC.

However, the Judge didn't like this. Judge Walter's order essentially said that BAYC had not brought any claims against RR for defamation, slander, or libel, and that the anti-SLAPP motion was not applicable as the RR/BAYC NFTs 'do not express and idea or point of view'.

So, now Ryder Ripps has the option to appeal the court’s decision. If he doesn’t, the case will go to trial, where a jury will make judgements on various aspects of the suit.

That's one trial I would LOVE to see.
