Yuga Labs Settles Court Case with Ryder Ripps BAYC NFT Collection

The NFT world has seen its fair share of controversies, but the Ryder Ripps BAYC NFT saga takes the cake. RR/BAYC is a clone of the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) project, sharing the same names, features, and traits as the original.

The project was developed by Thomas Lehman and managed to net a whopping $1.6 million, even topping the original BAYC sales volumes for a brief while. But the success was short-lived as Yuga Labs, the creators of the BAYC project, sued Lehman for intellectual property infringement, trademark, and copyright violation.

The lawsuit has now been settled with Lehman agreeing to delete and destroy all BAYC marks and burn all RR/BAYC NFTs. He's also forbidden from using the BAYC mark in any manner and must delete all social media under the RR/BAYC brand.

Lehman has issued a statement saying he never intended to harm Yuga Labs' brand and appreciated their positive contributions to the NFT space.

We will let you decide whether to believe that or not.

Yuga Labs was pleased with the settlement, stating that they look forward to holding Ripps and Cahen responsible for their infringement.

In a space that often resembles the wild wild west, this latest development serves as a reminder of the importance of being vigilant and not falling for duplicates that violate intellectual property rights.

Remember to always check collection links, sources, and never copy someone else's work - or you may just have a lawsuit on your hands.

Jack Butcher’s Checks NFT Collection Overtakes BAYC Trading Volume!

A true success story - In just a few short weeks, Jack Butcher's Checks V4 NFTs have taken the digital art world by storm, overtaking Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) in trading volumes. The Checks NFT project is all about capturing a moment in time, where a simple checkmark represents a person's digital identity.

Why do we love Checks so much? Well, the 16,031 unit open-edition NFTs embody two core web3 ideals: verification and digital identity. With 360% increase in sales volumes and an average price of $3.2k USD, the project has already amassed $26.04 million in secondary sales.

And once again, I fumbled the bag. But I'm happy for all you Checks holders!

According to NFT Power Rankings, this is the first time an Open Edition NFT has surpassed Bored Ape Yacht Club in terms of trading volume. With 26% unique holders and 5% of the total NFTs listed, the NFT community has set its sights on a brand new blue-chip on the block.

The top collector has 508 Checks, while the average holder has 3.8 Checks.

Open Editions are really having a moment right now!

What is it that makes Checks so popular? The Checks NFT project evolved from Jack Butcher's previous NFT "NFTs, Defined," and serves as a commentary on the shifting power structures and digital identities in the internet age. The checkmark that was once a symbol of veracity and achievement is now reduced to an $8/month subscription, and the project aims to highlight this shift in the context of the checkmark.

The Checks V4 NFTs are also a reflection of timeless art and electronic culture, acting as a bridge across time, sometimes representing modern artists, sometimes a popular meme, and sometimes the most notable portrait of a time.
