MachiBigBrother Is Dumping Everything. Is BAYC Done?

The Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) experienced price volatility due to transactions by Jeffrey Huang, aka Machi Big Brother.

Huang sold over 50 Bored Apes, with one transaction earning him 651 Ethereum ($1.2 million) on Blur! marketplace.

The reason for selling his BAYC collection remains unknown. Consequently, BAYC's floor price dropped to its lowest point since November 2021, reaching approximately 33 ETH ($62,000) from a peak of 152 ETH in April 2022.

However, there was a partial recovery when Huang purchased 14 Bored Apes, raising the cheapest ape's price to around $74,000, a 14% increase.

But is this enough? Let the chart below tell the story:

is BAYC going to be flipped forever?

Recently, ZachXBT, a blockchain investigator, revealed he was being sued for defamation by Huang, stemming from an article alleging Huang's involvement in embezzlement.

Huang denied the allegations as unlawful defamation.

Hermes Wins ‘MetaBirkin’ Case, Big Win For NFT Trademark Laws

A Manhattan federal judge ruled in favor of Hermes against artist Mason Rothschild and his "MetaBirkin" NFTs. The decision upholds Hermes' trademark rights and permanently stops Rothschild from selling these NFTs.

The jury found the MetaBirkin NFTs to infringe on Hermes' signature Birkin bag trademark.

MetaBirkin? More like MetaBirkOut amirite?

While Rothschild argued it was artistic commentary protected by the First Amendment, the court rejected this defense, stating it deceived consumers into thinking Hermes endorsed the NFTs.

Hermes was initially awarded $133,000 in damages, but Rothschild continued selling the NFTs, leading to further court intervention.

No One Bag Can Hold All That Power

The ruling highlights the importance of respecting trademark rights in the NFT field, affecting luxury brands, the art market, and NFT growth.

It also raises questions about artistic expression and trademark infringement boundaries while setting a precedent for future legal battles in the luxury brand-NFT landscape.
