Manifold Doesn't Enforce Secondary Marketplace Royalties
NFT artists and creators turned on Manifold today when it became apparent its creator royalties aren’t respected on the secondary market. If that all sounds Greek to you, basically Manifold Studio allows creators to mint tokens on their own, self-deployed creator contracts. This means creators get to keep full ownership of their contracts, plus set their terms, including royalties.
That’s all well and good when it works, but apparently, it doesn’t.
While the royalties are guaranteed from the mint, that luxury is no longer extended on the secondary market, such as on marketplaces like OpenSea. Yes, that means if you mint on Manifold, then someone buys your NFT on OpenSea….there’s absolutely no cut for you. Seems fair right?
Artists are (understandably) pissed. I would be too. Imagine you get your dream record deal with a promise of royalties and then some asshole just puts it up on Spotify and steals all your cash. Oh wait, that’s literally what record labels do. But you catch my drift: The creator only loses and in the end, the winner here is OpenSea.Again.
All I Want For Christmas Is Prada
Santa baby, just mint a Prada NFT, for me. Christmas is just around the corner, and high-end luxury fashion house Prada has announced the return of its 'Timecapsule' NFT collection for the holiday season.I know what I will be asking for this year.
First released in December 2019, this upcoming launch marks the brand’s seventh Timecapsule NFT collection. This collection includes 50 NFTs accompanied by festive gender-neutral sweaters! Put down the knitting needles granny, this year, I'm wearing Prada.
Not only do you get a cool Christmas Sweater, but also have access to exclusive events and experiences. Some holders have already flown to Milan to attend fashion shows and been treated to Michelin-star meals.
So if you're looking for that extra-special gift, the NFT drop launches December 1 at 3 PM CET. A Prada Christmas Sweater? Sign me up - does anyone have an address for Santa?
