The NFT space is a never-ending source of surprises, and this week is no exception! From real-world events sparking artistic conversations on the blockchain to major project updates and unexpected platform changes, get ready for a wild ride.

This Week’s Highlights

  • Art Meets Reality: Shocking news inspires creative expression on the blockchain as digital artists react to the Trump assassination attempt using NFTs.

  • Market Pulse: Weekly NFT sales hit $109 million, but fewer participants raise questions about the future of the market.

  • Ape Out!: The Bored Ape Yacht Club DAO gears up for launch with their Curtis testnet rollout, exciting fans of the exclusive project.

  • Trump's Back: Former President unveils his fourth NFT collection, "Unbelievable Spirit," returning to the NFT scene.

  • Curveball from Reddit: Platform halts planned animated avatars for Polygon NFTs, leaving the reason behind the change unclear.

The shocking event of Trump Assassination Attempt has ignited a powerful response within the NFT creator community. Explore how artists are using NFTs to express themselves in the wake of this headline-grabbing news.

Following the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald J. Trump, digital artists have swiftly responded with their own visual commentary. The striking images from the event, particularly those showing a defiant Trump against an American flag backdrop, have become the focal point of these artistic reactions.

Hold on a second! While weekly NFT sales reached a cool $109 million, the number of active participants declined. What does this mean for the future? Is it a cause for alarm or a sign of a maturing market?

  • Ethereum remains king: Despite worries about fake trading (wash trading), Ethereum held onto the top spot for NFT sales, bringing in $32.7 million.

  • Polygon surges, but with a question mark: Polygon's NFT trading volume skyrocketed by 90%, beating out Bitcoin and Solana with sales of $24 million. However, $3.1 million of that volume is suspected to be wash trading, and the number of NFT buyers on Polygon dropped nearly 79%.

  • Solana held steady: Despite a small drop from last week, Solana remained the third-largest NFT seller with $22.7 million, likely due to a rise in wash trading. Interestingly, Solana still boasts the most unique buyers compared to other major blockchains.

  • Bitcoin struggles: Bitcoin's push into NFTs continues to be challenging. Sales dropped 5% to $15.1 million, highlighting the competition from other blockchains.

Greg Solano, co-founder of Yuga Labs, shared insights on the launch in a recent blog post. He highlighted the collaborative efforts in branding and the anticipation for future developments once the mainnet is operational.

Donald Trump expects to publish his fourth collection of NFT images. In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, Trump announced the development and highlighted how well his other collections had performed. He said “The whole thing sold 45,000 of the cards. And I did it three times. I’m going to do another one because the people want me to do another one. It’s an unbelievable spirit. Beautiful.”

Reddit is closing down its Collectible Expressions feature. This feature allowed users to create animated expressions using their Collectible Avatars NFTs. The change will take effect on August 5, 2024. After this date, users won’t be able to use Collectible Expressions in new comments, although they may still see them in older comments.
