Mutant Hounds Twitter Account Was HACKED!
Another hack - can you blame us for having trust issues? Whilst NFT Twitter has been relatively quiet over the holiday season, hackers have taken this opportunity to get up to no good. On December 29th, Hackers took over the Mutant Hounds' Twitter account. The malicious schemers placed a link in the Mutant Hounds Twitter account leading to an airdrop.
Except, surprise surprise, there was no Mutant Hounds airdrop. This was yet another phishing scam.
It was OKHotshot who alerted the Crypto Twitter community to the hack on the same day. OKHotshot also discovered that the link had recently registered with Namecheap. OkHotshot - the hero we all need.
On the same day, individual team members took to Twitter to let the community know that the account had been recovered. Then, by Friday the 30th, Mutant Hounds was back with an official post.
First, they let holders know that the Hideout is coming soon - the minting of the hounds! Then, they took the time to assert that there will be no surprise airdrops.
We can now relax, as the Mutant Hounds Twitter account is no longer compromised.
Take this time to remember to NEVER trust stealth drops, airdrops, or surprise drops of any kind!
Repeat after me: I will not click random links. I will use a burner wallet. I will not click random links. I will use a burner wallet.
Now repeat this to yourself every night before bed. You will thank me later.
China’s National NFT Marketplace Will Launch This Month
In surprising news, the Chinese government is planning to launch its own NFT marketplace enabling users to trade digital collectibles. The state-sponsored China Technology Exchange, the state-owned Art Exhibitions China, and Huban Digital Copyrights Ltd, a private company, developed the marketplace. It will run on the China Cultural Security Chain network.
That's right, China - who only this year announced it would allow NFT trading - is building its own marketplace.
A first for China, the NFT marketplace’s name translates to “China Digital Asset Trading Platform.” Apart from facilitating digital collectibles trading, the marketplace will also allow the trade of digital copyrights and intellectual property rights. It will also use its own blockchain - the China Cultural Security Chain.
Now, here's the catch - you can't actually refer to NFTs as NFTs.
In China, NFTs are called digital collectibles. Also, residents cannot use crypto to buy NFTs. Plus, the artworks are traded on highly regulated platforms.
So, NFTs that are not allowed to be called NFTs, which can't be bought with Crypto, on highly regulated platforms.
Despite this, the country has been experimenting with NFTs for the last couple of months. The state-owned media company, Mango TV, for example, announced its plans to launch an NFT platform early this year.
Also, late last year (hello 2023), a court in China recognized NFTs as virtual property protected by law. The landmark ruling compared digital collectible sales to “the “selling of digital goods through the internet.”
It will definitely be interesting to see how this new digital-collectible-marketplace-which-doesn't-use-crypto plans out. Stay tuned.
