Hey NFT fam!
It's been a whirlwind in the NFT world this week, and NFTEvening is back to bring you up to speed on all the latest happenings. We've got some market updates, a cautionary tale from the Blur Marketplace, and some not-so-great news about crypto scams. But fear not, we'll also point you toward the hottest sales of the week and how to stay connected with our awesome community! So, buckle up and let's dive in!
This Week’s Highlights
Market Update: NFT sales continue to decline, with a 12% drop last week. Ethereum remains the top blockchain for sales, but wash trading is on the rise.
$BODEN Slump: The Solana meme coin $BODEN experiences a sharp decline, reflecting broader market volatility.
Blur Marketplace Phishing Scam: A user loses $240,000 in NFTs after falling victim to a phishing attack on Blur Marketplace.
Crypto Scams Increase: Data shows a rise in crypto scams, with over $60 million stolen in the first half of 2024.
The NFT market is facing some headwinds. Sales have dipped for two consecutive weeks, with a 12% decrease last week following a 16% drop the week before. Despite involving over 785,000 traders and 1.4 million transactions, total sales barely reached $100 million according to CryptoSlam. Ethereum remains the dominant blockchain for NFT sales, but it also saw a concerning rise in wash trading activity.
The Solana meme coin $BODEN experienced a harsh reality check, plummeting over 40% in a single day. This decline, likely fueled by broader market volatility, pushed $BODEN's price below 0.09 USDT. While the ongoing US election might have played a role, it serves as a reminder of the inherent volatility within the crypto space.
The dark side of NFTs reared its ugly head this week. A user on Blur Marketplace fell victim to a phishing attack, resulting in the loss of $240,000 worth of NFTs. Three Elementals, 40 Beanz, and six coveted Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs were stolen and then listed for a mere $WEI each, highlighting the importance of vigilance against online scams.
A worrying trend emerges as crypto scammers become increasingly brazen. Data reveals that these con artists have already swindled $60 million from 20 victims in the first half of 2024. This represents a 6.44% increase compared to the same period last year.
