STEPN move-to-earn app loses 999,999 daily active users
Another day, another argument about the number of users. After Decentraland, which has seen its daily active users estimated at 19, it's now STEPN's turn. New reports by DappRadar suggest the move-to-earn platform has just one DAU. They had one million in April.
So what? Running is not a team sport anyway. A Ponzi scheme, however, is. Move-to-earn and other "to earn" mechanisms have been accused of being Ponzi schemes. The more, the merrier. Money from new investors produces revenues from early investors. Loop it once, twice, or as many times as you want until the house of cards collapses.
Is it the reason STEPN has lost users? Maybe users just grew tired of it. How many people have you seen quit their daily run once fall kicks in? I was never into running, except with friends. At least I had someone to talk to. Some say STEPN lost users to the competition, specifically to the Step app, where you can exercise with Usain Bolt. Who wouldn't want to run with one of the most famous athletes for a friend?
Obviously, STEPN claims that the data contained in DappRadar is inaccurate and informs of upcoming changes and an evolving vision for the project. Let's blame it on the user experience, right?
Stolen Bored Apes and the art theft of the century
The French police arrested five scammers yesterday over the theft of Bored Apes worth $2.5 million. My guess is the felons hadn't installed STEPN on their smartphone. Hackers, for sure, but not athletes. Indeed.
Twitter user ZachXBT's detective work laid the groundwork for the arrest as he precisely identified two of them back in August. Zach has been at the forefront of inspecting and exposing frauds and bringing crypto criminals to justice. He would have had a blast on August 21, 1911.
On that day, a little-known painting by Leonardo da Vinci was stolen from Le Louvre in Paris. The "Mona Lisa" gained worldwide press coverage and became famous overnight. Pablo Picasso was even suspected and questioned. Criminals were not leaving trails on the blockchain back then, and soon enough, an entire gang of amateur detectives got involved.
It took more than two years for the painting to be found and returned. Vincenzo Peruggia had committed what became the "greatest art theft of the 20th century" and was an inspiration for many books, films, and documentaries.
This is not financial advice, by the way.
Today's edition is brought to you by "Anthony Hopkins - The Eternal"
Sir Anthony Hopkins will always be Hannibal Lecter. His breathtaking performance in the 1991 movie "The Silence of the Lambs" won him his first Academy Award and a place in the hearts of many movie enthusiasts. Last year, the Welsh actor, director, and producer received his second Academy Award for best actor, 39 years after his first. Unique.
A man of many talents that seem to accumulate with years, Sir Anthony Hopkins has recently partnered with web3 entertainment Orange Comet to launch the "Anthony Hopkins - The Eternal" NFT collection, available on OpenSea.
It conceptualizes the diverse characters Sir Anthony Hopkins has portrayed over his film career: The Jester, The Lover, The Rebel, The Hero, The Ruler, The Sage, The Magician, The Giver, The Explorer, and The Creator.
If you wonder under what character lies "The Serial Killer," they made it pretty obvious.
