'The Flippening': Part II

Hold on to your popcorn folks, because things are getting wild(er). In October of last year, we first witnessed 'The Flippening'. A horror story for some communities, a comedy for others, this tale of loss and triumph showed how Apes can reign supreme in a world of JPEGs, with Bored Ape Yacht Club surpassing CryptoPunks for the first time. Since then, BAYC has been a box-office hit, sitting in number one position.Well, now we have a sequel - The Flippening: Part llWe all love a comeback story. Just over a year since BAYC first flipped CryptoPunks, the punks are BACK to regain their top spot!

So CryptoPunks are back on top, and we have FTX to thank. This past week in web3 has felt like a lifetime, with the FTX crash throwing curveballs every second of the day. With people losing obscene amounts of money across the board, the pressure to sell caused floor prices to plummet. The cheapest BAYC is now 57.5 ETH to buy, slipping around 7% from its last price point. This means that the current floor price is down 84% from its April 2022 peak. Ouch.

Why are Apes being sold for so little? Well, often buyers will place a cheeky, low-ball bid on a high-value asset. Usually, these get ignored, but now with so many trying to recoup their losses in any way they can (like SBF selling off his Bahamas Penthouse) they are taking whatever they can get. I wonder if SBF will sell his BAYC NFTs too?

Amongst all this drama, CryptoPunks remain steady. It must be nice to be back on top, right? CryptoPunks now sit on their throne with their lowest-priced punk at ~67 ETH.

What happens next remains to be seen - could 'The Flippening' turn into a Trilogy? Stay tuned, and have your popcorn ready.

FTX Pushes Back Kindness

That's right, we are still talking about FTX.

The FTX fallout has had a huge domino effect on the community, wreaking havoc on the hopes and dreams of creators, collectors, and crypto enthusiasts. At least we have memes to keep us laughing, right?

Ok, enough laughter, back to the real world. Thanks to SBF and FTX, many projects and protocols have been completely wiped out due to market conditions. This effect has rippled across the cryptoverse, and one project - HumanKind - has taken a step forward to address the situation.

If this week has taught us anything, it's that we could all benefit from a little more warmth and empathy in web3. That's exactly what Pablo Stanley is trying to bring through this project 'HumanKind'. Pablo (@pablostanley) emphasized the need for storytelling and great art in these rough times.

However, Pablo pressed pause on the launch of HumanKind. Citing turbulent news cycles and financial security concerns, he announced the pushback of the mint to next week, and went on to say that 'now is when we need art, beauty, and storytelling more'.
