y00ts and t00bs slash royalty fees to 0%
Good evening (because it's always evening somewhere!). It’s Monday, October 10th, 2022, and you're reading "To The Moon", the only newsletter where 00 isn't just for James Bond. Have feedback? Great, we don't want you to keep us in the dark! Send all of your thoughts to [email protected].

Double 0 DeGods
DeGods (t00bs and Y00ts) presents itself as the #1 NFT community on Solana. Franck DeGods announced yesterday that all of the team’s NFTs are going for 0% royalties. Instead of 9.99%. In other words, whenever a sale or resale occurs, DeGods gets Zip. Zilch. Zero. Nada.
Supposedly the consequence of this decision is cheaper NFTs for the buyers. Who wouldn’t want to pay their smartphone $1399 instead of $1490? (San Francisco’s sales tax is 6.5%). People do care say Google’s autofill results. The same goes for NFTs.
Some shops (marketplaces) in the Solana space are selling NFTs without taxes (royalty fees). And guess what? People are buying them. Shops grow their market share. Producers adapt their prices to demand. In that case, by slashing their royalties to 0. Simple, isn't it?
However, in the NFT ecosystem, royalties are pocketed by the creators, not the government. We love creators more than governments. Artists in the United States earn an average salary of $24 per hour. So, Twitter NFT is going crazy:
“Well done Franck! This will increase your collections values!"
“You’re an idiot! If you lower your prices, collection values will decrease!”
“It’s the good thing to do, you’re already rich” (DeSold made $6 million with royalties)
“You’re an idiot! Everybody will align and creators will die!”
Frank, what do you think? I'm dying from suspense (and because I’m an artist).
Phew.

Users. Not royalties. According to different sources, the platform hasn’t had many visits in recent weeks. Despite a $1.2b market cap, only 38 daily active users have been counted. Sounds like a gigantic mall in a ghost town…
Decentraland calls this misinformation as small figures are smart contract transactions, and reports 57K monthly active users. Sam Hamilton, creative director for Decentraland, mentions 8K daily active users.
He recently said in an interview:“If you were to compare Metaverse to film we are now in the silent film stage, we are really just at the beginning”
Silent stage… That’s a good metaphor. And the jury is out on what is counted.
As a confession, let me tell you that I went to a concert during the Decentraland metaverse festival exactly 12 months ago. I took a “balfie”. Just made that up. It’s like a selfie but shot from the back.
It's now up to you to form your own opinion.
